Cricklade 1 Wootton Bassett 3

In a game that promised much with both teams sitting well in the table and this being a local derby, however that game never appeared with Cricklade missing so many senior players, and having to adjust the side with 6 reserve players, but that is not excuse for a poor first half display that lacked fight.

Bassett started the brighter and took control of the first half, as they were given time a space to find passes, and after 12 minutes should have been in the lead as Alex Green should have taken full advantage as the Cricklade back four allowed the ball to bounce in the box, but he Ben Mitchell pulled off an excellent save stopping the one-on-one opportunity.

Minutes later the opening goal came from a free-kick at the edge of the box which had a large element of luck with a large deflection, but nothing more the Bassett deserved as Cricklade found it hard to keep the ball for long periods.

The half continued with Bassett dominance and Delaney should have added to the lead, but the stoke of half time he found the net as Cricklade conceded possession deep inside their own half, and with a ball fed through door Delaney latched onto in the left side before shooting past the advancing Mitchell.

Cricklade started better in the second half competing for the ball, but still without any fluid play, and found it hard to create opportunities, as mistakes looked to increase the Bassett lead which came on the 63^rd minute as Cricklade failed to clear the ball from a corner and the following cross as Bown shot from the edge of the box into the roof of the net.

Bassett continued to squander chances with Bowen being the main culprit, until 8 minutes from time with counter attacking move involving Johnson, Hogg and Price who slid the ball through to reason to restore some pride.
